MISSION THREE (3) PERRIN AFB TEXAS

I attended one of Arlis' Reserve meetings at Mena and their Liaison NCO was visiting that night.  His job seemed interesting and recommended I check with the in Texarkana to see if I could be part of that program.  The requirement was to have at least 5 years of service so that left me out.  From there the nearest Base was Perrin AFB located just on the South side of Lake Texoma., close enough to go home and finish  Masonic studies.

When I reported to the Director to Personnel and gave him my DD Form 214, he immediately started processing me back on Active Duty.  Swearing in over, he said "Your desk is right there"

While stationed at Perrin, Arlis stayed with us during one of his two-week tours.  Dianna ironed his shirts and pants that kept him looking sharp as an AF Captain should look.  I only wish I gotten a photo of me saluting him.

Personnel work can be interesting and includes casualty assistance.  This was a T-33 Training Base and while I was there two ditched into the Lake.  The first one was pulled under by his Chute and he drowned.  His Widow was an Asian lady that could speak very little English.  It was a stretch to make sure she understood her status, benefits and future, etc.  And the second one was quickly rescued and for some reason in bringing him in they came by our office, dripping wet with the most scared look I have ever seen. But he was OK physically at least.

we finally got into nice government quarters and was just setting down to Dinner when I passed on the news that ruined Dianna's meal...

The Personnel director informed me that I had been nominated for assignment to England and he said I can get you out of it and I said OK.  A couple of months later, another nomination came in for Germany and he said I can get you out of this one if  you want me to.  I said OK.  A few months later, another nomination came in for Clark AFB, PI, and he said I may not be able to get you of this one and this is not a bad assignment.  I thought well, they are going to get me and the next one may not be so good.  So I said I might as well go for it.  Got home and passed along the news.

As it turned out Director had been nominated for Clark also where he became the "Club Officer", tried to get to work for the Club part time as a Stick Man at the Dice Table.   Scared me to even thing about it... This ended Mission 3 and Mission 4 begins..
